Porgy and Bess is set in a poor black fishing community in South Carolina, a former slave State, and tells the tale of a love story.
Since the original show set in New York in 1935, this musical has gone on to achieve world wide fame. Created by George and Ira Gershwin this is an excellent tale and a moving and very beautiful jazz production. The remake, produced under the watchful eye of Trevor Nunn, has captured all the excitement and energy, as well as kept the important themes involved throughout the production. Showing at the Savoy Theatre, this is a must see production, which has received excellent reviews from a number of great sources: “a spectacular theatrical evening”, “A Masterpiece of sheer bliss” to name but a few of the glowing reports!

This musical tells the tale of Porgy, a crippled beggar, who like the rest of the cotton-pickers and fishermen drinks and gambles through summer evenings. Although he is initially content with his life, this all changes when he falls in love with Bess, a drug addict and girlfriend to a murderer.
