The Frost / Nixon play is based on the Watergate scandal in 1972. The author is Peter Morgan , and he has created, what he feels to be a close account of the truth.
The story begins with a break in to the Democratic National Committee at the Watergate Hotel in Washington, which went wrong and was foiled. Shortly after it could be linked to the White House and directly to president Nixon's closest aides. Which in the end, saw the end of president Nixon's political career.
The British talk show host David Frost interviewed him which is the major crux of this play.
It is an exciting and historical production detailing the events from that night, and the rippeling effect in the aftermath. The interview drew the largest audience ever watching the show which, embarrassingly, lead to the resignation of the American President.
It is packed with facts and interesting tales and deservingly got praising reviews when it first staged, - “an enthralling semi-documentary drama”, “ a sharp, witty and haunting production”, “ a fascinating piece” are but some of the glowing reviews it received.
The play is currently running at the Gielgud Theatre before touring to Broadway, so book your seat fast!
