The hit film from 1987 has led to the creation of the stage musical of Dirt Dancing. The musical is currently showing at Aldwych theatre in London's East End.
The story begins in a holiday camp in called Kellerman's outside New York in the summer of 1963. The story centres around the building of the relationship between Frances, “Baby” and Johnny. As their relationship builds they discover a mountain of problems which they must over.
This was a classic film and with over £3 million worth of tickets being sold in the first 6 weeks of the release of the musical is will be no surprise if the musical does not follow in the footsteps of the film. Eleanor Bergstein said about the musical “most of the audience will know the story well and the great pleasure we can give them is the sense that what they know and love is still in front of them”
The story is full of heart pounding music and emotion, it is exciting and emotional. Featuring all the songs from the hit film, including time of my life, Hey baby, Do you love me and hungry eyes.
After its opening night reviews praised the show, saying it was “The biggest live theatre sensation of all time” and “A gorgeous feast of dance”.
The show is produced by Kevin Jacobsen while it is Kate Champion who was in charge of the choreography.
